View Full Version : Problem with smargo and smart card

I'm experiencing a strange problem. My smart card works on the smargo reader without any problems till early every morning (at least so far it stopped working some time early in the morning).

Then I have to place the card back into the dreambox at which point it would start working again after a couple of minutes. I can then put the card back in the smargo reader and all will be well till the next morning when it would stop working again. From my limited understanding this has something to do with emms not getting to the card when it's in the smargo reader?

I'd appreciate some assistance with this.

Regards
Roland

Please give us more information. Do you use the smargo with cccam, and what entrys are in your cccam.cfg for the smargo. What card are we talking about? How is your smargo conected to your dream, directly, a hub or what?

Smargo is used with cccam 2.2.1 on ubuntu 10.04 32 bit. Card is ACS 5.4.

Dreambox is using cccam 2.2.1 with same config (shown below).

---
CAMDATA: /dev/sci0 11 22 33 44 55 66 77 88 99 aa bb cc dd ee ff
TRY ALL CHIDS : /dev/sci0
SMARTCARD WRITE DELAY: /dev/sci0 100
SMARTCARD CLOCK FREQUENCY: /dev/sci0 7800000
---

Similar config for smargo, except I'm using /dev/ttyUSB0 and additional line: SERIAL READER : /dev/ttyUSB0. Clock frequency is also set low as there are no other users on this card.

When running via the smargo, the dreambox connects via an intermediary server, so it is in fact two hops away. I spotted this for the first time today:
# with this setting you can
# allow a client on two hops away
# to send the updates to the cardserver
#
# default : no
#
#EXTRA EMM LEVEL : yes

Could this be where the problem lies? I would assume as no dreamboxes connect directly to the server with the smargo reader emms don't get through so I will need to enable this.

Oh, also to answer your question, how is the dreambox talking to the server with the reader. It is via a couple of wifi links. Latency is quite low.

Hmmm, now I've read elsewhere about unhashing your B: line at least once a day to stop freezing, e.g.

B : /dev/sci0 06

What does this do?

Looks like I solved my own problem. Just had to add 'EXTRA EMM LEVEL : yes'

So this is not really a smargo related issue, but more generic to any card server not connected to a satellite feed.

the guy is located in africa thats why the card makes no sense to us ;)

maybe things work different over there with entitlements then in europe.

@roland.peterson i note from another thread about high emm count, unless this is causing you a problem i personally would not worry about recieved emm's.

Thanks for the assistance. It's working so I'll stop worrying about it.

It's surprising how few groups support or discuss providers in Africa...

there seems plenty support for north African providers especially the arabic based ones, not sure exactly where you are located in Africa though ;)
