Ian Poulter today blasted the set-up of the course for this week's French Open, despite keeping his title hopes alive with a second-round 69.

The Englishman improved on his opening score of 72 to move to one under for the tournament, which is being held at Le Golf National near Paris.

"Paris National is a magnificent course, but they have got the set-up completely wrong," the Ryder Cup star told Sky Sports.

"I'm amazed how they have brought in pretty much every fairway. They've made it too tough."

Tournament director David Probyn said there had been hardly any change in the fairway widths from previous years, but the rough was up following the wettest June for 60 years.

"It's tougher than we would like it to be, but I think the targets are still there to hit," he said.

Le Golf National is the course chosen for the 2018 Ryder Cup.
